At the Advanced Center For Internal Medicine we believe in a patient centered approach for both Acute and Chronic Conditions as part of our primary doctor services for adults.
Acute Conditions
Acute conditions typically last for a short period, can have a quick onset and can be severe. Examples of acute conditions are upper respiratory infection, sinusitis, urinary tract infection, strep throat, abdominal pain, influenza, pneumonia, and asthma exacerbation. Please call with any non immediate care acute illness and Dr. Patel will schedule you to see her in a timely manner for evaluation and treatment.
Chronic Conditions
Chronic conditions are medical issues that will be with the patient for long term and will require ongoing treatment. Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma or COPD, High cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), Obesity, Hypothyroidism, and Anxiety or Depression are examples of chronic medical conditions.
With chronic conditions it is the utmost importance that the patient understands their diagnosis and treatment options but also understands their role as a patient as to what they can do to improve their outcomes.
Chronic conditions may require medical testing with labs, radiology tests, medications and referrals to specialists. As a primary care physician, Dr. Patel will coordinate care with the specialists so the physicians and patients are working together with similar goals and outcomes. Dr. Nirali Patel, an internist, educates her patients about their ongoing medical diagnosis with the goal for patients to understand their condition and treatment options. An educated patient will have the best chance of having positive outcomes.
